The surprising sixth lesson

It's the sixth lesson and I was surprised because an unexpected project is given as a homework. Actually, the project is called e-Portfolio. It's about introducing yourself and adding some other media into your e-Portfolio, making it even nicer.

Mr. Cheong recommended us not to start the e-Portfolio first. Unless you know all the HTML and CSS. Mr. Cheong said that he will teach us how to do an e-Portfolio. I'm quite lazy so I think I'll follow Mr. Cheong. Hou Yi, one of my classmates has started doing it. I don't know why he's in a hurry of finishing it.

Erm...... Now, I'm going to show you what's about the e-Portfolio. Follow me to http://www.docstoc.com/docs/document-preview.aspx?doc_id=25575064. It's about the description of the e-Portfolio, the challenges faced, how to overcome challenges, create website and many more.

I'll post whenever I had a leasson of the e-Portfolio. So, I'll be showing you process of making the e Portfolio and the results. See you in the next post!

The 1st Class Test of IS

We had the 1st IS class test in the fifth lesson. Actually, I didn't study at all while my room mates study very hard. I didn't study because I don't know what can I study. I admit that there's something I don't know about the test but I insisted not to study because I want to know what have I learned during the lessons. I only did this for IS. I don't dare to do it at other subjects because I'm not very well with them.

During the test, I don't know some questions. Thank godness it's MCQ. It stands for Multiple Choices Questions. At least I know some of the answers are not valid so I choose the others. The test was not as hard as I expected. I was so relieved after the test.

The test is about all the things I've learned in the four lessons. Some of them are WWW, HTML, URL, Domain Name, Protocol, e-commerce, DSL, CSS, ARPANET and many more. The test is according to the lessons we've attended. So, it's not very hard.

I hope that I did the test well. I know I didn't revise but I expect a good result.

It's Fourth Lesson Already?!

Yes, this is the fourth lesson in IS. I'm very sorry about last week because the posting was not ver much. I think this lesson's post will be short as it's only the introduction of CSS. Last time, I talked about HTML right. Those who are interested saw the slide of HTML & CSS. Then, they know what is this post all about.

Actually, CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. It defines jow HTML elements are displayed. Besides that, it was normally saved external .css files. It change appearance and layout of multiple pages all at once. So, it's very simple and you don't you to change all the HTML. There are other 2 ways to use CSS but teacher didn't say anything about it. I'll briefly go through it. The two other different ways to use CSS are internal style sheet and inline styles. If you want to
know both of them, go www.w3schools.com/CSS/css_howto.asp. It's a very useful website.

Ok, let's get back to our focus here, the external style sheet. Each page that was linked to .css file will have the effects. The link is placed inside the head section.

The differences between with styles webpage and without styles webpage are the font, word size, background and many more. Go to the website above to see an example. You can also put youtube, google map, flickr image gallery slideshow in. I can't put an example of it because it was
same as the HTML. Also go to http://www.w3.org/Style/Examples/011/firstcss.

A HTML Lesson in My Third IS Class

I'm very happy about Wednesday beacause we can learn many things about IS. In the third lesson, Mr. Cheong taught us about html. We used HTML most of the time and that's when we make a webpage. So we need to understand HTML. Many people may think that making a webpage is very easy but it's not. You need to know many things about it to make a great webpage.

Actually, HTML sands for HyperText Markup Language. It can be written in Notepad. There's many code structure's contents. I'm not able to write the structure because it is not allowed by Blogger.

Of course, you can also add pictures and links to the webpage. But, I'm sorry that I can't add the link and picture example. If I add it, the picture or the link wil appear.

Actually, HTML is only the first part. The second part is about CSS. Teacher will teach us that next week.

I'm really sorry that the information given is not too much. I can't add information about HTML because it will make effect on my blog. Still, I'm really sorry. Want to know more about this? Just go to

Second Lesson of My IS: Forum Discussions on Social Media, IP and Blog & Website

This is my second lesson of IS. It is forum discussions on social media, IP and blog/website. First, social media is the social impact of new media technologies. Then, it's the IP. Actuaaly, IP are ethical issues on media usage and intellectual property. Lastly, the blog & website is about the differences between blogs and websites.

We are to do one of the three discussions. We were asked to pen down our opinions and responds in the forum. I was selected to do the third one, differences between blogs and websites. Besides of participating in the selected forum, We're to comment on one of the other group and your group too.

Now, let's talk more about my discussions. Actually, the title of the forum is ''Blog or Wbsite? Which is Better?'' It's a video by Lisa, the creator of 2createwebsite.com. We need to use our own words and write down our opinions and responds in the reply box. The video is saying about all the advantages and disadvantages of blogs and websites. Mostly are like the blogs are a little stressful because the readers expect new posts each week. So, the blogger will need to post more. But with the websites, it's more ie references. It needed update maybe once a month. Then, they said that the website is more relaxed. There are also many other advantages and disadvantages of both sides. If you want to know more, just go to
http://http//www.youtube/.com/watch?v=Jq1wqtteb3I&feature=player_embedded to watch the video.

Now, I'll briefly introduce you to another two of the discussions. One title is called ''Intellectual Property - Is Copy Right?'' It is a video that teaches us not to copy things from the internet apartfor personal use. We should always seek the acknowledge of the copyright folder. It's wrong to copy others work without seeking permission or give acknowledges or credts to the ''owner''. So, it's point is to tell us not to copy things without permission or giving out crdits to those who owns the work.

Coming up is the ''Social Impact of New Media''. It's about the technology nowadays. In every month, week or even day, technology are being invented or upgraded. Without technology, we'll need to d most of the things ourselves and that will make us tired. With technology, our work is now reducing. It made our lifes better and better, in continuos. But there are also some disadvantages of it. One of it is hat men lost their jos because thetechnologies are replacing them.

If you are really interested in these discussions and want to look at it. Just go to
http://webnewmedia.ning.com/video and press videos. Except one, all of the videos are about IS.

First IS Lesson: The Internet & WWW

Yesterday was my first IS class. I posted this late because there's other things to handle. As you know, our first lesson is The Internet & WWW. Our teacher is Mr. Kent. He introduced himself with a video. The video can be seen at the website that Mr. Kent created. After that, he showed us his own website ( http://webnewmedia.ning.com/ ). He also taught us about The Internet &WWW with a presentation (http://www.docstoc.com/docs/21243409/TheInternetandWWW).

This is a 57 paged presentation. There are many objectives in this presentation, such as the history of Internet, types of websites, how to access and connect to the Internet, analyze IP address, the purpose of Internet, types of e-commercee, the steps required for web publishing and more. Firstly, the Internet originated from APRANET. It allows scientistat different locations to share information with each other. It also functions if part of the network were disabled. At 1969, there are only 4 host nodes in the world. But today, the number of host noeds have exceeded 200 million. So the Internet has grown a lot compared to the past.

There are three ways to access to the Internet. They are ISP, OSP and Wireless Internet Service Provider. Everyboby might have saw WWW before, but they might don't know what does WWW stands for. It stands for World Wide Web. It is a world wide collection of electronic documents and each of them is called a Web page. Besides of WWW, we also used web browser oftenly. They are programs that allows you to view Web pages. There are different kinds of web browser like Microsoft Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla, Opera and Netscape.

When our teacher asked us what is URL. We don't know how to answer. It stands for Unifrom Resource Collector. It is web server that delivers the Web page to your computer. They are 9 basic types of websites. They are portal, news, infromational, business/marketing, educational, entertainment, advocacy, blog and personal. The presentation provides more information than this blog. If you are interested, just click the address above.

I felt that Mr. Kent's teaching was very interesting. I learned more about Internet & WWW after his class. I hope the next class will come soon, really looking forward to it.
